The Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Winthrop University is seeking an innovative and involved tenure track Assistant Professor in elementary/early childhood education. The candidate will primarily teach elementary/early childhood methods, field experience, and internship courses. Expertise in working with diverse student populations is strongly desired.
The Richard W. Riley College of Education enjoys a strong reputation in the preparation of quality educators for South Carolina and the region. As an NCATE-accredited institution and a member of the National Network for Educational Renewal, Winthrop University maintains close working relationships with area schools as well as a number of state agencies and projects.
Major Responsibilities:

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in elementary/early childhood methods
-
Supervise students in field and internship placements
-
Conduct socially significant research to improve the education of children
-
Serve on university, college, and departmental committees
-
Advise undergraduate and graduate students
-
Provide service to the profession in community and professional organizations
-
Work with students and faculty in pre K-12 schools
-
Seek grants to support curriculum and program development
-
Teach evenings, summers, and some weekends
Qualifications:
-
Doctorate in elementary education or a closely related field required (ABD nearing dissertation completion may be considered at instructor level in a non-tenure track position); mathematics expertise preferred.

A minimum of three years recent teaching in elementary and/or early childhood grades is required.

An emerging record of scholarship is desired.

University experience preferred

Ability to teach through distance education desired

Ability to work in a team environment
-
Expertise in the use of instructional technology, e-learning and grant writing is desired.

Expertise in teaching mathematics at the elementary/early childhood grades through inquiry and hands-on methods is desired.

Expertise in working with diverse student populations (gifted, students with disabilities, and/or English Language Learners) is desired.
Employment Conditions:
A nine-month, full-time, tenure track position. Salary commensurate with qualifications. ABD in non-tenure track as instructor.
