NOTES FROM TRIPARTITE COUNCIL MEETING
OCTOBER 27, 2005

(Compiled by John Anderson)

Tripartite Statements on the Direction of the NNER: What we should do!

  • Advocate on all levels for defining the purpose of schooling in terms of moral responsibility & social democracy.
  • The NNER . . . Building capacity through leadership development at existing settings/sites.
  • NNER needs to assert equity as the central principle/feature of the AED + engage in manifesting that principle in educational practice.
  • Revisit the NNER statement of equity and take action at the national level & at local settings. Recommendation: Operationalize the existing action plan.
  • Provide strategies to settings to address EQUAL access to HIGH QUALITY education with a national voice.
  • NNER has been successful as a group with a common cause, sharing with each other. We think that NNER should do more project-based work, with a focus that supports our common work and results in specific, concrete products, outcomes, materials, that we can use. We suggest that, to begin, NNER identify equity and access as a core issue, develop an agenda related to equity and access that addresses policy at the national, local, and programmatic level, and create materials/products—grounded in the common wisdom of the network, that can support our common work.
  • NNER should focus on how to build an infrastructure that will build, strengthen + sustain local partnerships at each site (educate + communicate the agenda).
